Abstract:

Dynamic RELAXATION method is an iterative procedure for solving the simultaneous system of equations. This TECHNIQUE is used in the static and dynamic nonlinear structural analysis. One of the most important parameters in this approach is fictitious damping factor. If this factor is selected more accurately, convergence rate will rise. In this paper, inverse vector iteration method is utilized to find the damping factor in the dynamic RELAXATION iterations, and a new formulation is proposed. The geometric nonlinear analysis of several plane and space trusses and also structural frames are performed using the suggested method. The numerical results indicate that the convergence rate improves compared with the conventional dynamic RELAXATION procedure so that the number of iterations and the analysis time decrease significantly. Consequently, the authors' TECHNIQUE makes the solving process faster and more capable.

Background & Aim: Physical activity has an important role in the length of life of hemodialysis patients. Some complementary interventions such as RELAXATION TECHNIQUE might be effective on the level of physical activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Benson’s RELAXATION TECHNIQUE on physical activity of hemodialysis patients.Material & Methods: It was a randomized controlled trial that was carried out in the hemodialysis units of Shiraz University of Medical sciences. Eighty six hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to Benson’s RELAXATION TECHNIQUE group (n=43) and control group (n=43). The TECHNIQUE was performed in experimenmtal group for 20 min, twice a day for 8 consecutive weeks. Physical activity was assessed by the "Daily Living Activity (ADL)" and "Instrumental Daily Living Activity (IADL)" scale in both groups at baseline and 8 weeks after intervention. Data were analyzed with independent and dependent samples t-test, and chi-square using SPSS-PC (v.16).Results: Before the intervention, the mean score of ADL in intervention and control groups was 12.53 (2.54) and 12.30 (2.78), respectively. However, at the 8th week of the intervention, the mean score of ADL in the intervention group was 13.42 (1.44) and in the control was 11.74 (3.45). The results of independent samples t-test showed a significant difference between ADL of the groups (t=2.83, P=0.006). In addition, the mean score of IADL at the beginning of study in intervention and control group was 14.36 (4.36) and 12.04 (6.01) and at 8th week of intervention, it was 15.62 (3.77) and 12.00 (5.77), respectively. A significant difference was observed between two groups regarding the IADL scale at the 8th week of the intervention (t=3.29, P=0.001).Conclusion: The findings suggest beneficial effects of Benson’s RELAXATION TECHNIQUE on the improvement of physical activity in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, teaching RELAXATION TECHNIQUEs could serve as a resource for improving the levels of physical activity.

Abstract: Labor pain is a cause of stress and suffering; for which many women seek methods to relieve this pain. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of RELAXATION TECHNIQUEs on pain relief during labor. This study was carried out on 62 pregnant women referred to Fatemieh hospital (Hamadan, Iran) during their labor. They were selected using convenience sampling and were divided randomly in two groups. The first group (control) received routine way of ward during their labor and the second group (test) went through the RELAXATION TECHNIQUE after training. The intensity of pain was determined using a standard pain number rating scale, and the behavioral reactions were recorded using an observational checklist. The statistical analysis of data showed significant difference in intensity of pain between the two groups (P= 0.0001). Also there was a significant difference in behavioral reactions between the two groups (P<0.0001). Since the RELAXATION TECHNIQUE is easy to perform and without any risk and also has low expenses it is recommended for pain relief during labor

Abstract:

Background: Many patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) experience fatigue due to their disease process and its long period of treatment. Using nonpharmacological methods to help reduce their fatigue is a reasonable endeavor. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of Benson’ s RELAXATION TECHNIQUE on fatigue levels in patients after HSCT. Materials and Methods: Thirty‑ seven patients were randomly selected to the intervention (n = 19) and control group (n = 18). In the intervention group, the participants performed Benson’ s RELAXATION exercises for 20 min twice per day over a period of 15 days. The data collection tools used included a demographic and medical information form and the Brief Fatigue Inventory, completed by both groups on three different occasions (upon admission and days 8 and 14 after the HSCT). The data obtained were analyzed in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version‑ 20 using statistical tests. Results: The results of the independent t‑ test showed no significant preintervention differences in fatigue levels between the two groups. On days 8 (t = 11. 21, p < 0. 001) and 14 after the transplant (t = 15. 62, p < 0. 001), a significant difference was observed in the mean level of fatigue between the two groups. Conclusions: These findings indicate that Benson’ s RELAXATION TECHNIQUE would improve fatigue in HSCT patients.
